Woman arraigned for selling baby N100,000

The Police  in Ebonyi state yesterday arraigned a 37 year old woman, Blessing Prince(a.k.a Mummy B) for selling a  four days old baby for N100,000.

The baby belonged to a 20 year old man, Ifeanyichukwu Elem with the sum of N100,000.

Blessing is said to be operating a baby factory in  Port-Harcourt, Rivers State on 20th October, 2016.

She allegedly took the mother of the baby and 15 year old girl, Peace Oko from her home in Amangballa village, Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi state  to Port-Harcourt where the baby was delivered and sold to a couple whose identity could not be immediately ascertained.

The sum of N5,000 was given to the teenager to go back to her home.

Ifeanyichukwu who impregnated Peace was arrested by the police and detained for 20 days for insisting on the release of his new born baby by Blessing.

He was however released last Saturday under worrisome health condition. 
However Blessing who was rearrested after being released by the Police was reassigned at Federal High court 2 Abakalikl on a two count charge of dealing in child and selling a four day old baby.

Charge no FHC/AI/H/2016 read:'that you Blessing Prince and others now at large on the 20th day of October, 2016 at Amaokwu Amangballa in Afikpo North local Government Area of Ebonyi state, in the Judicial Division of this Honourable court, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Dealing in child and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 27 Trafficking in person(prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

''That you Blessing Prince and others now at large sometimes on the same date and place in the aforementioned judicial Division did sell Chidikaodinaka Baby Solution 4 days old to one Black real name unknown and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 21 Trafficking in person (prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015''.

The suspect Blessing pleaded not guilty after the charges were read.
She was however granted bail by the trial Judge, Justice Akintayo Aluko with N2million in like sum with a surety who must be a civil servant of not less than level 10.

He said the surety must have a landed property in Abakaliki. Justice Aluko ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody if she did not fulfill the bail conditions and adjourned the matter to December 5, 2016 for trial. ENDS
